Course Outline:
Mental Health Crisis Management covers a broad range of topics, starting with an understanding of the Mental Health Act 2014 and key legislation that guides practice, alongside the Charter of Mental Health Care Principles. Participants will learn about common mental health disorders, treatment options, and medications, with an emphasis on evidence-based practices and verbal de-escalation skills. The course also addresses the importance of ethical practice, legal compliance, and safe manual task handling within mental health settings.
Students will gain expertise in navigating challenging situations, including exposure to aggressive behaviours, with training in de-escalation techniques, basic defensive tactics, and self-awareness. Additional areas covered include working collaboratively in multi-disciplinary teams, managing health and safety in the workplace, infection control, and applying the principles of least restrictive interventions. The course also covers strategies for maintaining safety in confined spaces.
This course equips participants with the necessary tools to provide safe, ethical, and culturally sensitive care in mental health environments, promoting both individual and collective well-being.
Verbal de-escalation techniques: Learn to calm agitated individuals and prevent crises.
Reducing the need for restrictive interventions: Promote safety and dignity through effective strategies.
